Winter weather of snow and ice can cause disruption to services, transport and affect access to communities within Merthyr Tydfil.
The Highways Department has drawn up a Winter Maintenance Plan which covers Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s response to winter weather, specifically low temperatures and heavy snowfall.
The aim of the plan is to facilitate and coordinate Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s assistance to Merthyr Tydfil’s communities during winter weather.

Highways Information, Winter Maintenance & Gritting
We are working hard to grit and clear as much snow as possible throughout the County Borough, in accordance with our 'Whiteout Plan'.Main footpaths and side streets are being cleared today. As you can appreciate, to do all areas in the County Borough will take time. Recycling and Refuse
Collections will be made today if Fridays are your normal collection day, provided it is safe for us to get to properties. All catch up collections are continuing, again in the areas that are accessible. Please bear with us during this time. Your co-operation and patience is appreciated.

Social Care & Welfare Services
Victoria House and Sandbrook House are all currently open as normal.
Thomastown House is currently open as normal.
Glendere, Park View and LLysfaen are all open as normal.
Home Support is operational with cover in Continuing Social Care and in Initial Support Services at the Health Park. Independent sector home care providers have not reported any problems with making calls.
Duty desk is covered and working and Mental Health socialwork cover is also in place.
Safeguarding team is also covered today.
Day Services - Ty Gwyn Newydd, Ty Cwm and Learning disability and Mental health day services at the Health Park all have staff available but no service users due to transport problems.

Cemeteries
All our cemeteries are open however there is no access for vehicles. The pedestrian gates are currently open, but please be mindful of the deep snow and icy conditions in most areas throughout the cemeteries.

Please note that The Grove ATP, the Pen-y-Dre facility and Cae Mari Dwn are all currently closed due to the adverse weather conditions and will remain closed for the rest of the week.
