Business rates are collected by the Council and paid into a central government fund. These are then given back to local authorities based on population and spending needs. They are used to pay for services provided by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, together with council tax and government grants.
Business rates are charged on commercial properties. They are calculated by multiplying the rateable value of the property by the business rate multiplier set by the Government. The rateable value is set by the Valuation Office Agency.
Please see the pages within this section of our website for further information and advice on Business Rates.
