There are high social and economic costs of youth offending for Society, Public services, communities, victims and the children and young people who offend. There are a number of reasons for youth offending such as lack of family support, low levels of educational attainment or health issues to name a few.

The Merthyr Tydfil Youth Offending Prevention Team work with young people who are offending or at risk of offending. The Teams focus is to prevent offending and/or anti-social behaviour.
