Councillors, Democracy and Elections

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has 33 Councillors and they are elected in local elections that are held every four years.

Councillors are democratically accountable to the residents of their electoral division (otherwise known as Wards) and have an overriding duty to the whole community, including those persons who did not vote for them at election time.

The map shows the 11 electoral divisions covering the County Borough. Each electoral division is represented by Councillors. The number of Councillors is different in each ward and is subject to reviews by the Local Government Boundary Commission.
