Annual Report on ‘Social Services’ 2012 / 2013

As part of the Annual Council Reporting Framework (introduced by the Welsh Government in 2009), all Local Authorities across Wales are required to publish an Annual Report on their Social Services. The purpose of this Report is to inform local citizens and key stakeholders / partner organisations: how well we have been performing over the last year; how good we believe we are in meeting the needs of the community (based on evidence we have gathered); and, our key priorities for improvement.

Following an extensive review, the Director of Community Services has produced a draft ‘Annual Report’ on the performance and effectiveness of Social Services in Merthyr Tydfil during 2012 / 2013. To view the Report, please select the link below:
To ensure the Report accurately reflects the experiences of local service users, carers and other key stakeholders; the Report underwent a period of consultation (2nd – 26th April 2013). Feedback received as part of the consultation will now be carefully considered and used to inform the Director’s final Report.
So, what happens next?
Taking into account feedback received as part of the consultation; the Director of Community Services will now produce his final Report. This will be presented to Council in July 2013 for approval. Once approved, the Report will be shared with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW). The Report and supporting documentary evidence provided will be examined by CSSIW; which will help them to determine how they will review and inspect Merthyr Tydfil CBC over the next year.
In addition to this we will strive to maintain or further improve the areas where we have particular strengths and begin addressing the priorities for improvement outlined in the Report.
The approved Annual Report on ‘Social Services’ 2012 / 2013 will be publically available from August 2013.
