Corporate Plan

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has now agreed its Corporate Plan 2012/13. This document sets out the Council’s ambition for Merthyr Tydfil, its aims for the next 12 months and demonstrates in a time of increasing financial pressures, how, along with its partners, it will continue to support the development of Merthyr Tydfil as a community where people are proud to live and visit.

In order to identify the Council’s priorities (priority outcomes) a review of the Council’s previous Corporate Plan, last year’s eight priorities and an analysis of the budget and council priorities consultation exercise was conducted by Senior Managers and Elected Members. It was understood that not every service could be considered a priority in these difficult financial circumstances.

As a result The Council has decided to focus its efforts in delivering an ambitious agenda through four priority outcomes which will be supported by a series of key projects in the next 12 months:

  • Priority Outcome 1: People in Merthyr Tydfil benefit from a strong, sustainable and diverse economy.
Key Projects: Town Centre Regeneration Projects including Building Enhancement Schemes and Penderyn Square in the Town Centre.

  • Priority Outcome 2: People, who live, work in and visit Merthyr Tydfil are safe and feel safe and are supported to enjoy a healthier and better quality of life.
Key Projects: Homes For Life and Get Merthyr Active.

  • Priority Outcome 3: People enjoy a vibrant, attractive and sustainable environment in which to live, work, play and visit.
Key Projects: Residual Waste Project and Littering Enforcement Project.

  • Priority Outcome 4: People in Merthyr Tydfil have the opportunity and aspiration to learn and develop their skills to maximise their potential.
Key Projects: Merthyr Reads, Merthyr Succeeds and Access to Employment.
