The Authority is constantly making decisions on development and in order that these decisions are made with confidence, a planning policy framework is essential. Policies are needed to allocate enough land for the County Borough’s future requirements and guidelines must be laid down to ensure that when development takes place, it is of good quality and does not adversely affect the area. It is within the context of these policies that rational and transparent decisions on planning applications can be made.
The Planning Policy section has responsibility for formulating and making public the Authority’s planning policies via Development Plans. The section also produces Development Briefs and Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG). Please use the following links to view existing publications.
