A wealth of Information on the Local Area

Merthyr Tydfil Libraries has a vast archive of information and photographs relating to the local area.

The newly refurbished Central Library has a new space on the first floor dedicated to the history of Wales, its people and the local area.

There has been a lot of work going on over the last few months to help to make our local information and historic books, documents, photographs and other items more accessible to everyone and there are now new listings of maps and electoral registers held by the Library. You can view these maps and electoral register lists by clicking on the links.

Our collections are here for everyone to access, although we do have restricted access to some collections which are rare or irreplaceable.

Merthyr Central Library holds the majority of easy access records while we have our Special Collections with restricted access available at Dowlais Library with study space.  To access these collections you will be required to sign in and out of the area, for full details of how to access these collections please contact us at Merthyr or Dowlais Library, using the contact details below. In addition you will find information on Welsh writers, local writers and the best of Welsh writing in English, alongside a multitude of resources for anyone hoping to learn Welsh.
