Road Closures for Special Events
Temporary road closures can be arranged for special events such as national celebrations and illuminations to take place. Such closures are carried out using powers under The Town Police Clauses Act 1847. Prior to approval of a road closure certain criteria has to be met and evidence of suitable public liability cover must be provided.
The applicant is responsible for meeting all costs of the closure. A minimum of 6 weeks notice is required for the process. The applicant is also responsible for meeting the cost of alternative route signing.

Road Closures for Highway Improvements
Temporary road closures can be arranged on behalf of public utility companies for highway improvement works to take place. Such closures are carried out using powers under The Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Prior to approval of a road closure certain criteria has to be met and the applicant is responsible for meeting all costs of the closure. A minimum of 6 weeks notice is required for the process. The applicant is also responsible for meeting the cost of alternative route signing.
