MERTHYR TYDFIL COUNTY BOROUGH

COMMUNITY STRATEGY

The Community Strategy for Merthyr Tydfil has now been published and is available to view at public libraries and community centres across the County Borough (as well as being downloadable from this site).

The Community Strategy provides the County Borough with a top-line, overarching strategy that sets a unified vision and purpose for all of the key stakeholders of Merthyr Tydfil in taking forward the improvements of the area in response to local needs and concerns. It looks to tie together all other strategic and planning development into a coherent working framework.

As Ian Davy, Executive Director of Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil, states: “The Community Strategy is a superb chance for all aspects of life within the County Borough, from businesses, to voluntary groups, to the Local Authority and the NHS Trust, along with the people who live and work here, to come together under a single clear vision of how to improve the area.”

Where as individual strategies and developments have looked to improve the County Borough in the past, they have worked independently of each other and either dealt with specific areas in the County Borough or specific issues that the area faces. The Community Strategy looks to tie together all of these strategies and developments into one overarching document that deals with all the key issues and all of the areas within the County Borough, as well as setting out clearly what the priorities are for the County Borough.

With the Strategy developed, and therefore a clear understanding of what the aims and vision are for the County Borough, the Partnership is now able to begin to develop an Action Plan that will put in place the mechanism by which those aims will actually be achieved. Where as the Strategy is very much the “this is what we want to do” the Action Plan will state “this is how we are going to do it.”

The Strategy is also a “live” document, and therefore it will be monitored, reviewed and revised to ensure that it continues to fit with the priorities of the County Borough.

The Community Strategy Partnership would like to thank all the organisations and individuals within the County Borough that have taken the time to express their views during the consultation process.

As Ian Davy again states: “I am sure that with the support of the people and organisations of the County Borough in implementing it, the Strategy has every chance of working as it is intended: as a guide and unifying vision for the area that will bring about worthwhile and lasting change to peoples lives.”
