Race Equality Scheme

Race Equality Scheme (RES) 2005-2008

In accordance with the Race Relations Act 1976, as amended by the Race Relations (Amendment) ACT 2000, it is the duty and responsibility of each Council to ensure that race equality is an integral part of the following processes:

Policy development and delivery
Service development and delivery
Regulation, inspection and enforcement
Employment practices - both internal and external.

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council intends to meet its obligations under the Race Relations Act fully and this is demonstrated in the Race Equality Scheme 2005 -2008 (below), which the Authority published on 31 May 2005. The Scheme includes an Action Plan.

MTCBC will :

Monitor policies to identify any adverse impact on race equality
Assess and consult on the likely impact of proposed policies
Publish the results of our assessments, consultation and monitoring
Ensure that the public have access to information and services
Train staff in relation to the duties of the Act and responsibilities contained within the Scheme.

Our Revised Race Equality Scheme 2008-2011 is now available for consultation. The approved Revised Scheme will be available in June 2008.
