Voluntary organisations and community groups play a vital role delivering services and providing resources to local communities. Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council (MTCBC) is committed to developing good working partnerships with voluntary and community groups throughout the borough to complement and maximise the impact of the voluntary sector’s work.
The Merthyr Tydfil Local Compact with the Voluntary Sector is a framework which lays out the partnership between MTCBC and the voluntary sector.
MTCBC works closely with Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil (VAMT) at both strategic and operational levels to develop effective working which will have long term benefits for the voluntary sector and communities in the County Borough. For more information on VAMT's work please visit: www.vamt.net
The Merthyr Tydfil Voluntary Sector Liaison Committee oversees this process and has specific responsibility for approving grants to voluntary organisations from the Merthyr Tydfil Development Fund. The relationship with the voluntary sector is managed by the External and European Funding team at MTCBC.

Merthyr Tydfil Local Compact with the Voluntary Sector
The Local Compact is a framework document that sets out how Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council (MTCBC) will work together with Voluntary and Community groups. As part of the Compact, the Merthyr Tydfil Liaison Committee has been set up between MTCBC and the Voluntary Sector.
The Compact shows how both MTCBC and the Voluntary Sector are committed to continued partnership working, shared aims and objectives and mutual understanding to improve the quality of life for the people of the County Borough.

The Merthyr Tydfil Voluntary Sector Liaison Committee is made up of six MTCBC Councillors and six representatives from the Voluntary Sector, and has staff support from MTCBC and Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil (VAMT).
The Liaision Committee maintains an overview of the voluntary sector and is responsible for implementing the Local Compact and clarifiying the roles and expectations of both MTCBC and the Voluntary Sector. The Committee facilitates effective partnership working, providing opportunities for collaboration and communication.

The Merthyr Tydfil Development Fund is an annual fund which voluntary and community organisations working in the County Borough of Merthyr Tydfil can apply to for grants to support projects benefiting people in Merthyr Tydfil.
It is managed by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council working in partnership with Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil.
In 2006 grants will be between £10,000 and £25,000
Deadline for applications 20 February 2006
Applications received by the deadline scored by the assessment team on the 2 March 2006
Successful applications will be recommended for support to the Voluntary Sector Liaison Committee at a meeting on the 6 April 2006 and applicants will be informed of the outcome of their applications by the 30 April 2006.
