Adult Community LearningWhat is Community Learning?
Social Services & Social Regeneration has developed an holistic approach to Social Regeneration. Two very important strands to this approach are developing learning opportunities for adults and developing learning opportunities for young people who are not in a formal learning environment such as college, school or university. Activities that enhance learning within the community is the focus for the service.
Through partnership, the service will create and sustain an environment where young people and adults have access to a wide range of learning opportunities, within a community setting, which is relevant to their needs. These learning opportunities will be delivered to meet individual learning styles, therefore maximising a persons potential and achieving a greater degree of independence and quality of life.
The service recognises that participation in learning and improving skills contributes to a number of critical local and national policy objectives such as increasing employment, health and wellbeing improvement, as well as developing greater social inclusion within the community. The services have already contributed to all of these policy objectives and has achieved notable successes in
- Training adults and placing them into employment
- Supporting young people to gain life skills qualifications and national awards
- Supporting adults with mental health problems gain confidence and motivation
- Supporting young people to gain an understanding of health related issues, volunteering and the world of work
- Developing the skills of adults to help them in achieving their own personal ambitions whether it be for work, social interests or personal development.
