Background Information
Learning Pathways 14-19 is a commitment to the transformation of learning provision for all young people in Wales. 'Learning Pathways' addresses the need for a more flexible and balanced approach to the education of 14-19 year olds, providing a wider range of experiences which will suit the diverse needs of Wales' young people.
What are Learning Pathways?
Learning Pathways are the learning experiences of each individual 14-19 year old. They involve developing an entitlement for each learner. They include a balance of formal learning, wide choice, flexibility and a Learning Core 14-19, together with a unique blend of support to meet learners' needs.
The Welsh Assembly Government has tasked 14-19 Networks in each Local Authority to deliver the learning pathways. They secure the range of programmes and support necessary to ensure learners have access to all elements of Learning Pathways at age 14-19.
The Merthyr Tydfil 14-19 Network was formally established in the Autumn of 2003 in response to the Welsh Assembly Government's agenda in "The Learning Country".
The 14-19 Network through the guidance issued by the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) seeks to strategically plan, develop and implement the delivery of the 6 elements of the Learning Pathway, namely:
The delivery of the Learning Pathways through effective partnership and collaboration would provide all 14-19 year olds with the opportunity to realise their full potential and receive the appropriate balance of learning experiences that best suit their needs at particular periods in their lives.
