Tax Credits
You may qualify for help towards the cost of childcare, if the childcare you use is registered. You can apply for two tax credits, Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit. The general rule is that to qualify you must be aged 16 or over and resident in the UK.
Child Tax Credit helps most households with at least 1 dependent child. It is paid at a higher rate for households with at least one baby under 12 months. It is not paid for childcare provided by nannies and au pairs or any other unregulated childcare. To get help in paying a close relation for childcare, the relation must register as a childminder.
Working Tax Credit helps to top-up the earnings of low-paid workers.
