Cyfarthfa DC logo competition winner

The Cyfarthfa Development Centre (DC) was the first cluster to be involved in PESS in Merthyr in 2003. It paved the way for other schools within the authority to follow and in its 3 years as a full Development Centre was very successful with examples of good practice being highlighted by ESTYN, ESIS Advisory service, PESS National Project and The Welsh Network of Healthy Schools. The DC continues to lead innovation in PESS in Merthyr Tydfil.

1. Ensure a whole school approach to high quality PE through the introduction of an assessment for learning policy which will reflect an improvement in standards

2. Maintain good practice in upper key stage 2 adventurous activities, extending work by using online shared documents to compare results and developing lower key stage 2 units of work.

3. Consolidate and maintain good practice in leadership

4. Incorporate PESS Health, Fitness and Well-Being into the school curriculum (key stages 2 and 3)
