Healthy Eating in Our Schools

School Dinners

The school meal team is committed to providing a healthy diet from the food purchased to the methods of preparation. The main focus is to provide a healthy, well balanced meal for Primary and  Secondary schools that will be enjoyed by all our customers whilst promoting the importance of a varied diet for pupil’s health and general well being.

The principle of healthy eating in simple terms is eating a wide variety of foods in moderation and conforming to modern guidelines:

  • more fibre
  • reduced fat intake
  • reduced salt intake
  • reduced sugar
  • fluid intake should be optimum 3 litres a day
  • eat five portions of fruit/vegetables daily.

Making School Meals Fun, Interesting and Educational

Lunchtime is an integral part of the school day.  We encourage customers to try new foods and enjoy making lunchtimes both great fun and interesting by promoting healthier eating through theme day menus throughout the year.

The Benefits of having a School Meal

  • All meals are nutritionally balanced to comply with Nutritional Regulations.
  • Children can sit together and enjoy their meal whilst at the same time developing their social skills.
  • Special dietary requirements are catered for.
  • Many of the catering staff are parents too and live locally; children can identify with a friendly face serving them at lunchtime.
