Exciting Writing Squad The Young People's Writing Squads aim to locate gifted young writers - in both English and Welsh - in each authority region and introduce them to some of Wales' leading writers, and teachers of writing.
The Writing Squads have been developed over the past decade by Academi in association with local authorities in Wales.
The Merthyr Tydfil Exciting Writing Squad has been meeting and working since 2002. The members are nominated by their primary school, because they illustrate flair and ability in the English Language.
Being a member of Exciting Writing Squad means they get to meet professional writers, introducing the members to the very highest standard of poetry and prose directly from those who make their living through creative writing.
The Exciting Writing Squad produced an Anthology of selected poetry and fiction in 2009; "Journey To Other Places" (together with the Welsh Exciting Writing Squad).

Members are expected:
To produce work for annual publications
Complete and return allocated work
To attend at least half of the scheduled meetings
