Landmark Wales A Big Lottery Fund Bid, under the "Living Landmarks" programme
18 October 2007 STATEMENT
Landmark Wales not included in Big Lottery final shortlist
Peter Cole, chair of the Landmark Wales Steering Group, said: “The Landmark Wales bid to Big Lottery Fund to develop a series of iconic artworks in key Welsh locations has not made the final shortlist in the highly competitive Living Landmarks process. “Although obviously disappointed, the partners in this ambitious and transformational project are grateful for the support received from Big Lottery to develop Landmark Wales/Tirnod Cymru over the last 18 months. The project has generated substantial media interest, phenomenal public feedback and support, and demonstrated a high level of partnership working across Wales. “It is fair to say the Landmark Wales project has already served to raise awareness of public art among a wide and varied audience. The steering group is grateful to Marks Barfield, Tonkins Lui and Ian Ritchie Architects who put so much creativity and energy in developing the lead artworks to the high standard we achieved. The steering group will be meeting soon to discuss how Landmark Wales can now best be taken forward through alternative funding routes. “We offer our best wishes to those bids still in contention for Lottery funds and trust that Wales will be successful in winning at least one project of the highest quality.” ENDS
