Quo at the Castle

Merthyr Tydfil will be rocking all over the world on Saturday 26 July 2008 when Cyfarthfa Castle plays host to legendary rockers Status Quo.

Following the success of last year’s Donny Osmond homecoming gig, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has confirmed that Status Quo will be headlining the open-air concert that is planned as a full day event this summer where the Council is expecting an attendance of up to 15,000 fans.

Status Quo, one of Britain’s best-loved bands, who formed in 1967, will appear in the grounds of Cyfarthfa Park, as part of the “In Search of the Fourth Chord” tour.  This current tour – named after the current album - will see Quo performing across the world taking in dates in Switzerland, Austria, Sweden amongst others and now in the South Wales region.

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s Leader, Councillor Harvey Jones said: “This is fantastic news for Merthyr Tydfil. The success of the Donny Osmond concert last June was the start of the County Borough attracting big names to the town.   Cyfarthfa Castle is a perfect location for hosting such events and to be able to host such a world famous band like Status Quo will be an honour and a privilege for the residents of the County Borough”.

Councillor Bill Smith, Portfoilio Member for Customer Community Services also commented : “ An event of this size will see partnership working between  the local authority staff and co-producers Danny Chang and Stuart Cable.   It promises to be a superb event and everyone is really looking forward to it.”
