Health, Wellbeing and Quality of Life Through Recreation and Sport.

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council provides a range of leisure and recreation facilities throughout the county borough including leisure and community centres, swimming pools (including free swimming) and Dolygaer Oudoor Education Centre. The recreation and sports section is also responsible for Sports Development, Playscheme Provision, and fitness initiatives within the county borough.

The Recreation and Sports section of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is commited to supporting the Welsh Assembly Governments long term strategy for Sport and Physical Activity with particular emphasis on reducing physical inactity and encouraging people to become more active in their daily lives. We are continuously striving to improve our services and are currently involved in a number of new and exciting developments.

In October 2008 Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council opened the doors to the Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre the centrepiece development of Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Village is one of the UKs most well equipped leisure centres.
