Commit to Get Fit CampaignThe 2005 “Commit to Get Fit” campaign was a tremendous success at the Merthyr Recreation sites, where over 300 people took up the challenge in July, and committed to a healthier lifestyle by joining one of the local authority’s fitness suites. The fitness suites at Rhydycar, Aberfan, Dowlais and Gurnos offered a free week’s trial, as well as half price Gold card membership, allowing unlimited access to any of the Council’s fitness suites, health suites or swimming pools for just £11.50 for the month.
The campaign offered free taster sessions, open days, gym competitions, and a sponsored walk along the Taff trail from Rhydycar to Aberfan Community Centre, and in total raised over £300 for Cystic Fibrosis.
The success of the Merthyr campaign was recognised by the FIA (Fitness Industry Association) at their annual awards ceremony, and out of over 600 Leisure Centres and Health clubs was short listed for “The award for Excellence” and “The Most Innovative Challenge.”
