Wisdom?

It is worth reflecting how we often get things slightly wrong, after all it was really the Greek Horse not the Tojan Horse wasn't it?

In the same way, the "Last Supper" of the Bible was really the first supper or communion with Jesus instructing his disciples what to do.

It is often worth looking beyond the obvious or widely accepted. In that spirit we offer whatever wisdom the world has to give...

"While no lie is truely acceptable, lies are usually of two kinds. One type of lie sort tells you about the man or woman telling it, the other may have a more personal effect. Tolerate the first and pity their weakness, destroy the other lies if you can"

Anon

Make the best use of what is in your power, and take the rest as it happens.

Epictetus (55 AD - 135 AD

"Be not afraid of going slowly; be afraid only of standing still".

Chinese Proverb

All is ephemeral - fame and the famous as well.

-Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121-180)

And eternal wisdom

Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding.

Proverbs 3:13

A caution about quotations (and anything "unchecked" on the Internet)

Some quotations may not be what they seem - although you may still find them useful.

For example, many people have used the following "quotation" and it is listed on a number of quotation sites.

It is said to be by  Gaius Petronius Arbiter (c.210 BC or c.60 AD)

"We trained hard … but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams we would be reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing; and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency, and demoralization."
