Bookshop

We also sell books!

Merthyr Tydfil Public Library runs a bookshop that generally allows us to provide you with the option of buying any in-print items about the County Borough.

These sale items include books, booklets, an annual calendar, postcards, prints, compact disks and DVDs

The calendar goes all over the world and gets a positive response from many former residents. For example, we recently received a letter of thanks from someone from Missouri (by way of Georgetown, Merthyr Tydfil not Washington!)...

"I received your...calendar (from a friend in Abercanaid) and I was absolutely thrilled with it...it has done me so much good...I'm 86 soon and to be 87 and still alert in my mind, but I tend to forget some things of Merthyr. This calendar has enlightened me so much"

In addition to selling general publications on the area we publish our own popular series of local titles, especially the two series "Valley Views" and "Valley Lives".

Within our publication programme we have gradually been reprinting a selection of local classics including The History of Dowlais Ironworks by John A. Owen and The History of the Hamlet of Gellideg by Fred Pedler

We have also produced a set of more basic leaflets about local communities and original booklets in a print on demand in a series that includes a study of the Spanish community by Carl Llewellyn and a political history of Merthyr Tydfil by Andrew Church
