Newspapers
We have a comprehensive collection of local newspapers on microfilm starting with
The Merthyr and Cardiff Guardian of 1832.
The most important newspaper set in our collection is the
Merthyr Express from 1854 to date.
Please note that the Merthyr Express format and coverage changed significantly over the years. At one time it was the main newspaper for the region with a number of different editions. We generally have the Merthyr Tydfil edition, but coverage varied with some stories, especially those printed for sale in neighouring valleys.
Copies
Newspapers are free to search during opening hours.
We can print sections at a set rate of £1 per page, but, unless you are able to visit the library to search the newspapers in person, we would normally require a specific date to be able to do copies for you.
