Treharris Library The opening of the new Junior Lending Department at Treharris Library, 1948.
Treharris Library is the next oldest Carnegie funded building in service and was officially opened on October 20, 1909.
Described as a "red letter day in the history of Treharris". A procession of thousands of local people carrying banners and flags braved the rain showers to march through the village to the new library.
Alderman Andrew Wilson J.P., a local councillor and Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil opened the library with a golden key.
The crush at the library was so great that the lives of young babies in arms was judged to be at risk! So many ladies began to faint in the crush that the gates were closed for the day.
