Opportunities for volunteers to support library activities

Merthyr Tydfil Library Services is working with VAMT - Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil, to offer a range of opportunities to work with us in delivering wider benefits for the community that we serve.

The detail of what we offer is also listed on these pages

There are only three main conditions that apply to all volunteers:

We only accept volunteers who come to us by way of a referral from VAMT.

In addition to VAMT processes we organise an informal interview and require an application form with some very basic details - with no need to go into any details of achievements, etc.

Any volunteers in contact with members of the public will require a formal check with the the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). That is arranged by the library at no cost to the volunteer.

Each role we offer is described in some detail, but it is important to note that one of the reasons we offer volunteering opportunities is so that anyone interested in the tasks has the opportunity to acquire new skills and experience. In most cases we do not expect the volunteer to have all the skills listed, but we do want the person to want to learn them all with our help!

Please also be aware that we do not offer any opportunities to do core library work on a voluntary basis, although similar tasks may be involved in some of the activities, so a volunteer would not do any of the work required for those main service objectives. The opportunities are very much about bringing new options to make the basic services more effective in the community.

We will offer travelling expenses in certain circumstances - depending on the nature of the opportunity and to ensure that the volunteer does not lose out in any way.

If you have any specific queries about the detail of these opportunities then please check by emailing library.services@merthyr.gov.uk
