Code of Practice
The staff Code of Practice has been used in some form since 1992.
Is isn’t a “public” document, but we think that you should know that it exists. The first Code of Practice was created to ensure that library users received a fair and balanced service at all times.
For practical reasons, all staff must work within rules and guidelines – if they didn’t, a lot of decisions would come down to opinion and the risk of inconsistent or sometimes ill-thought out reactions to situations.
Everything in our COP has been discussed and worked out to be as fair and balanced as possible for staff and service users.
If there are any queries, complaints or suggestions – from anyone - we assess them against the guidelines to ensure that staff have acted correctly and applied our operating rules consistently.
While not everyone may be happy with all the rules we need to work to (like late return penalties!), everyone should be aware that we review the rules every time someone complains or questions them – please note that they have been changed as a result, so it often is worth raising matters of concern with us. At the very least we will give you a full explanation.
