Plans and Projects
Most of our daily work involves reacting to customer demands, but we also work toward improvements to stock and services as we modernise library services.
To achieve the improvements we usually work toward specific plans and projects
Plans usually fall into two categories
1. External regulation as determined by:
The Welsh Assembly Government objectives for all Welsh Libraries as outlined in "Comprehensive, Efficient and Modern Public Libraries for Wales. Promoting Higher Service Standards 2005-2008".
Legal requirements like the local implementation of the Disability Discrimination Act.
2. Internal objectives. These plans are organised under a local authority improvement framework that includes, "Key Strategic Priorities" along with an "Improvement Action Plan Toolkit"
Our current project headings for areas of improvement are:
Improved Services for Special Needs/Equalities
Including sign language and visual impairment classes and focus groups with users
Development of outreach services
Oncluding promoting reading in schools and changes to mobile library routes and services
Stock management and promotion
Including checking all stock against our database and lists of books available and the purchase of special collections
Development of online services.
Including more partner site to increase access from the community and closer links with regional libraries to increase access to resources
Promotional work
Including Braille information leaflets and the new e-mail based information service for library users.
Surveys
Including new topics and the use of customer feedback to improve stock and services.
