Whether native or transplanted, Wales undoubtedly boasts a very rich variety of writers.

This page seeks to introduce some to you, starting with local poet Mike Jenkins.

Poet and story writer. Teaches part-time at a comprehensive school. Winner of Eric Gregory Award in 1979 and Welsh Arts Council’s Young Writer’s Prize in 1984. Winner of John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry and 1998 Wales Book of the Year (English section). Former editor Poetry Wales. Co-editor Red Poets’ Society.

AVAILABILITY: Most Thursdays and Fridays, evenings and weekends. AGE RANGE: Primary school upwards for both readings and workshops. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Non car-driver.

Yr Academi Gymreig - The Welsh Academy is the Welsh National Literature Promotion Agency and Society of Writers. The Academi runs events, courses, competitions, conferences, tours by authors, lectures,  international exchanges, events for schools, readings, literary performances and festivals. It also administers the annual Book of the Year award.
