Bringing books, audio books and information to the housebound
This service is provided for people who normally cannot leave their homes and/or their carers.
We can provide almost any item of stock or information available from the main library service.

Books of all kinds, including large print.
Books on CD and tape.
Music CDs.
How we serve users
Members of the Special Needs Service can ask for specific titles or suggest new ones at any time.
Stock is normally chosen for the recipients of the service, based on what the member has said they like to read.
We can also provide information, either by items being taken to the home or, if it is more urgent, by post. (We can not always provide original reference or non-book material (for example microfilms), but in most cases copies of the information can be can be made free of charge)
Visits are normally based on a set monthly timetable and normally take place during mornings and early afternoons
The member keeps items until they are collected at the next scheduled visit - unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Stock can normally be kept longer if needed, but, as with all loans, we will not be able to extend a loan if someone else needs the item.
No fines are charged for this service.
How to apply
We have limited resources and it is important that we make sure that those who need this service most get it. For that reason you have to make a special application to receive this home service.
Every applicant is interviewed (informally at home) to confirm their eligibility and create a list of their interests if they are accepted into the scheme. Ideally, applicants should already be known the the County Borough Council Adult or Children's Services Departments.
If you or a relative or friend are interested in receiving this service please request an application form by clicking the link below

Please note that some routes can be over-subscribed. In those circumstances there can be a short wait before you can begin to receive the service.
