Visually impaired
We are very pleased that we have been able to substantially increase the services offered to local inhabitants with visual impairment.
Until recently our main services for the visually impaired comprised a very large collection of large print books, audio books and contact details for external service providers.
If you have significant sight lost we hope to offer you some good choices with our collection of books on tape, but we cannot pretend to be able to offer the level of service that you should receive from the RNIB Talking Book Service. Contact them by ringing 0845 762 6843 or visiting their website at www.rnib.org.uk/talkingbooks
Since we began the modernisation of services in 2002, we can offer two significant new services
Free public Internet access on eighty computers shared between our three libraries.
Adaptive technology on every machine using the Dolphin Suite.
We also offer:
Public Braille printing facilities at Treharris
The possibility of group sessions at Dowlais or Treharris, including whiteboards for increased image magnification.
Braille labels on audio books.
We are also undertaking a range of activities to make staff more aware of your needs including meetings with various local focus groups.
We have a free audio guide to our Library Services. To receive this guiide
