Junior Swimming Lessons

Gwaunfarren swimming pool has a strong tradition of teaching swimming lessons to a high standard and offers a full range of swimming lessons from tots to adults, rookie life guards to lifesavers; from the first splash to the perfect dive, Gwaunfarren swimming pool is committed to teaching swimming.

Children can begin their swimming lessons at Gwaunfarren from just five years of age. Classes are run throughout the week and on Saturday morning. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis. Courses are run throughout the year. Places fill up fast so we operate a system of new starter enrolment days.

Junior Lessons

Lessons are held on Tuesday and Thursdays evenings and on Saturday mornings. Courses are of 10 week duration with a natural progression to the next level.

·        All children above the age of 5. 

·        Natural progression at Childs own pace

·        All teachers are friendly and fully qualified to Amateur Swimming Association standard and are all qualified lifeguards.

·        Warm water and a safe environment, ideal for learning

·        Badges and certificates

Beginner Lessons Objectives:

  • to encourage water confidence
  • to teach basic stroke technique through the use of floats
  • to discourage the use of armbands
  • teaching to pick up a small object from the bottom of the shallow end of the pool
  • all 3 main strokes taught (breast stroke, back stroke and front crawl)

Improver Lessons Objectives:

  • lessons taught in the deep end of the pool
  • to improve stroke and breathing techniques
  • to learn new skills such as treading water, sculling and surface diving

Advanced Lessons Objectives:

  • to refine swimming stroke techniques
  • to maintain swimming skills and stamina in the water

In conjunction with the Welsh Assembly Governments Free swim initiative, there’s going to be lots of fun throughout the holidays. Here’s just a taster:

 

Monday to Fridays

9am-10am                                  Adult swimming, have a swim before the crowds

 

Tuesdays and Thursday

10am -11am                               Aquasise with Beth, keep fit for summer or just enjoy your self in good company  

                                

Week 1

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

10am-11am                                 Children’s underwater hockey and water    

                                                   polo (includes free use of equipment)

                                               

Week 2

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

10am-11am                                  Certificate week, that certificate that you

                                                   always wanted, finished off with a

                                                   swimming Gala

 

Week 3

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

10am-11am                                  Rookie lifeguard, learn the techniques of

                                                   the lifeguards

 

Week 4

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

10am-11am                                  sessions including the famous Egyptian run 

                                                   inflatable
