Morlais Castle

Morlais Castle was built in the 1280's by Gilbert de Clare, Earl of Gloucester and Lord of Glamorgan.  Situated in the Northernmost part of his territory, it was intended as a stronghold against the Welsh Princes of Gwynedd and other marcher Lord Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford and Lord of Brecon.

It is now a ruin, only an outline of the walls and the moat remain on the surface, although an underground crypt still remains intact.

It is open all year round but is an unmanned site.
