Council Tax Benefit Take-Up CampaignMerthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and the Welsh Assembly Government are running a joint campaign to increase Council Tax Benefit take-up amongst the residents of Merthyr Tydfil. The Assembly has provided funding to each Welsh Local Authority for this project, and the Council have recently appointed a Lead Officer for the campaign.
They will be responsible for identifying the underclaiming groups and individuals, and will be arranging meetings at various venues in the County Borough during the course of the project. The campaign will be extensively advertised in the press, GP surgeries, hospitals, supermarkets, and the Council’s Contact magazine and buildings. The Council will also be linking up with the statutory and voluntary sectors, to ensure that each organisation works in partnership for the benefit of our residents.
The Officer's role will include:
- Increasing the number of residents claiming Council Tax benefit, thereby improving their financial well-being
- Helping to remove the stigma of claiming a benefit
- Identifying why people are not claiming Council Tax Benefit which they may be entitled to
- Identifying if you are entitled to “Second Adult Rebate”
- Providing help in completing claim forms
- Providing advice and support on claiming other benefits you may be entitled to
