Playgrounds

Importance of play
Play is an essential ingredient for the healthy growth and development of children. It keeps children healthy and active, develops social skills and confidence, helps children to deal with stress, and may reduce crime and vandalism.
Play provision fosters a sense of community and can also improve social inclusion.
Children under the age of 12 years represent nearly 16 per cent of the population of the County Borough, and children of this age are the greatest users of outdoor play.
Consequently it is this age group that is in greatest need of good quality play opportunities. The important contribution of a good quality play environment to the social and physical development of children is widely acknowledged.
