Responsibility

Tenancy Agreement

The following is included in your tenancy agreement as part of our anti-social behaviour protocols. You will see that not only is a tenant responsible for their own behaviour, but for the actions of anyone living with them or visiting them.

Community Responsibilites

Everyone has the right to enjoy life in their own way providing they don 't upset residents living near to them. A good neighbour will tolerate and understand the different life styles of others. We will try to help people solve their problems peacefully but we will take action quickly when this fails and also in cases of harassment or victimisation.

Council's Responsibilities

We will provide you with help, advice and support if you report nuisance or harassment. We will investigate your complaint and decide what course of action to undertake.

Tenant's Responsibilities

As a tenant, you are responsible for your own behaviour and also of the behaviour of every person (including young persons) living in or visiting your home. You are responsible for their activities in your home, on surrounding land, in communal areas (stairs, lifts, landings, entrance halls, amenity areas, shared gardens, parking areas) and in the surrounding neighbourhood to your home.

Unruly Behaviour

Yourself, your family or any visitors to your property, must not cause a nuisance, annoyance or disturbance to any other person. Examples of nuisance, annoyance or disturbance include:

  • Excessively loud music.
  • Persistent and repetitive arguing or door slamming.
  • Dog barking and fouling.
  • Offensive drunken behaviour.
  • Selling drugs or drug abuse.
  • Dumping rubbish.

Harassment

Yourself, your family or any visitors to your property must not harass any other person.

Examples of harassment can include:

  • Racist or sexist behaviour or language.
  • Using or threatening to use violence.
  • Using abusive or insulting words or behaviour.
  • Damaging or threatening to damage another persons home or possessions.
  • Writing threatening, abusive or insulting graffiti.
  • Doing anything that interferes with the peace, comfort or convenience of other people.
  • Threatening or harassing Councillors, members of our staff or other members of the community.
  • Selling any item of property from any dwelling in your neighbourhood which is owned or has been previously owned by us.

Drugs and Grafitti

Yourself, any member of your family and visitors to the property must not use your home or any communal areas for any illegal activities such as selling drugs, storing stolen goods or selling counterfeit goods.

Yourself, any member of your family or any visitors to the property must not damage, deface or write graffiti on our property. . You may have to pay for any repair or replacement. Failure to pay may lead to possession proceedings being taken against you.
