Bond Board

The Bond Board Officer will help with completion of forms in respect of Crisis Loans, Budgeting Loans, Community Care Grants and Housing Benefit Forms where a prospective landlord is asking for rent in advance as well as a Bond.

Generally this Officer will also then apply for a Crisis Loan, which the Department of Work and Pensions can assess within 10 working days.

The scheme generally caters for those people that are not in priority need, but who may be vulnerable, such as those in a refuge, in ill health, who need access to ground floor accommodation, or who have mental health issues or who cannot tolerate shared living.

Those applying for a Bond will usually not be earning in excess of  £8,400 per annum (gross income), although there is discretion for those who may be earning above this figure but owing substantial debt.

A Bond Guarantee Certificate will be provided to the landlord, and will be renewed every 6 months.

Where arrears accrue the Bond Board Officer will pursue this through the Housing Benefit Section and where tenants appear to have money management problems they will be sign posted to an appropriate agency for advice.
