Car Parking in Merthyr Tydfil
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council are responsible for twelve car parks, all of which require paying and displaying (excluding High Street Car Park). These car parks are all positioned conveniently thoughout the town centre and include a number of disabled bays which are also pay and display.
The list of car parks (Location Plan and Key) available for public use are and which are pay and display:-
- Abermorlais Car Park (SAT ONLY)
- Castle Car Park
- Castle (S) Car Park
- College (E) Car Park
- College (S) Car Park
- Gilar Street Car Park
- Rhydycar (S)Car Park
- Swan Street
- Tramroad (E) Car Par
The charges for these car parks (excluding the three car parks at Rhydycar and Gilar St) are:-
- 60p for 1 hour
- £1.00 for 2 hours
- £1.20 for 3 hours
- £2.00 for 4 hours
- £3.00 per day
- £11.00 five days
- £12.00 six days
These tickets CAN be used in any other car park.
The charges at the three Rhydycar Car Parks are:-
- 40p for 2 hours,
- 50p for 3 hourrs,
- 60p for 4 hours,
- £1.10 allday or a
- £4.50 five days
- £5.00 six days
NB tickets purchased at the Rhydycar carparks CANNOT be used in any other car park
The charges at Gilar Street Car Park are:-
- 60p for 1 hour
- £1.00 for 2 hours
- £1.20 for 3 hours
NB Maximum stay at Gilars St is 3 hours - with a restriction of no return permitted within 2 hours. Tickets purchased at the Gilar St carpark can be used in any other car park. Season Tickets cannot be used in Gilar Street Car Park
All drivers (including disabled badge holders) have to ensure that a valid parking ticket is clearly displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle. Free holders are available at the Council Offices.
Alternatively a season ticket can also be purchased and cost £32 for one month, £150 for six months and £270 for an annual ticket which can now be paid by 12 monthly instalments. Tesco Car Parks (Former Station Car Park)
In May 2003 Tesco commenced construction of their new store and car park at the old Station Car Park site. A few months later (Nov 03) the store was opened with over 460 spaces available for public use. There are restrictions to parking at this car park and any queries relating to parking in the Tesco car parks should be made to Euro Carparks on telephone number 020 7388 9777. Please note that Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is not responsible for the car park at Tesco (formerly Station Car Park) location or enforcement of this area.
