The purpose of this Planning Handbook is, firstly, to explain the work of the Planning Division and, secondly, to provide advice and guidance on the many aspects of Planning and Development.
Planning is a subject which attempts to resolve competing needs and aspirations and has to deal with changes in local and national policies and guidelines as well as a changing social and physical environment. It is sometimes difficult for the layman to understand planning procedures and the reasons for decisions made on planning applications.
This handbook attempts to help people who may need to seek planning permission, and assist local residents and organisations who may wish to make representations to the Council on any planning matter.
It is hoped that this will encourage greater awareness and understanding of the planning system, and make a positive contribution towards desirable development, a greener environment, and enhancement of our heritage and conservation features, taking the County Borough forward towards a more sustainable future.
The Planning and Regulatory Committee constantly strives to ensure that Merthyr Tydfil becomes an even better place in which to live, work and spend leisure time. The Committee always welcomes your views on local planning issues.
