Heath and Safety at Work

The Authority has a duty to enforce the relevant safety regulations to prevent accidents and ill health amongst the many workers and customers. The various premises include retail outlets, offices, sports premises, warehouses, religious premises, garages, and other service industries such as hotels, pubs, clubs, hairdressers, leisure activities. Each premises is routinely inspected to ensure that adequate safety provisions and management procedures are in place to minimize the risk of foreseeable incidents causing injury. Also, the long-term impacts on the health of workers due noise, exposure to substances and repetitive strain injuries will be assessed. Enforcement activity is undertaken to minimise the likelihood of accidents or injuries occuring or to ensure the provision of adequate facilities for workers such as toilets, protective clothing, training and information, first aid etc.

The reporting of accidents and illness is a statutory duty and some will be investigated to ascertain whether there is a particular problem, if there has been negligence this can result in prosecution of both workers and the employer. |
