Vacant PropertiesThere are a significant number of vacant properties within the County Borough. The Authority holds a database of these properties and has an Empty Homes strategy. Such properties can have a detrimental impact on adjoining properties, surrounding neighbourhoods and communities which can lead to vandalism and further deterioration, stagnation or a decline in property values.
Action by the Environmental Protection and Housing secton may involve:
- Locating owners of the property
- Securing properties that are open to access
- Cleaning waste and overgrowth from gardens
- Treating for rodents
Vacant properties that are located within the County Borough renewal areas may also be eligible for grant aid and enquiries regarding this should be made to the Housing Services Department.
