Press Release - Legal Notices not to be Ignored

Two convictions have recently been secured at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates Court, when two Bedlinog residents were fines £600 each and ordered to pay the Public Health Department total costs exceeding £300 for non-compliance with a Section 16 Notice issued under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.

"The purpose of this notice is to clarify ownership details or a person's interest in a particular piece of land or property," said Zoe Pieris, Principal Environmental Health Officer at Merthyr Tydfil CBC. "The Public Health Department has issued 52 of these notices in the last year. The majority are completed and returned within the allocated time period, for which we are grateful to all those who have responded promptly. However, when the legal notice is not returned, the Council is obliged to take appropriate action".

Ms Pieris added, "The outcome of these two cases is satisfactory and we hope that it sends out a message that legal notices should not be ignored".
