Public Health This Service Area covers a variety of some sort of services and enforces much of the public health protection legislation such as hygiene standards in catering establishments and safety in the workplace.This allows us a prime position within the authority of promoting lifestyle prefences which benefit public health.
As well as programmed inspection of businesses and residential premises a proportion of the work undertaken is of a reactive nature .When a report is received or a request is made Officers will investigate and take actions if conditions exist which are a risk to public health or a nuisance.
These types of requests for action include:
- Rodents and insects
- Stray dogs
- Emissions of smoke, fume or odour
- Overflowing or damaged drains
- Unsound food
- Ruinous, dilapidated and vacant buildings
- Accumulations of waste
- Housing disrepair/ poor living conditions
Usually we will endeavor to improve the situation or advise the customer by informal means however Legal notices may be served in order to recify matters and enforcement is via the Magistrates Courts.
