Enviroman launched on World Environment Day PR501

More than 300 pupils from across the County Borough joined MTCBC's Environmental Services Department in Aberfan Community Centre on World Environment Day, 5th June to launch their new mascot “Enviroman”.
With this in mind ,Theatr Fforwm Cymru were employed to perform two thought provoking interactive theatre performances, based on recycling, composting and cleansing which are real issues for Merthyr Tydfil. The audiences were actively involved throughout as pupils were encouraged to suggest or act their ideas to resolve the problems put forward.
Following the performance, suddenly a noise was heard outside the hall, the doors burst open, music boomed and Enviroman entered the hall to a rapturous applause. Pupils and adults alike were quickly up on their feet clapping and welcomed Enviroman to Merthyr Tydfil.
Enviroman is powerful, strong and iconic. From his childhood he grew up with a burning passion to fight the never ending battle to inform people to be waste aware, and to realise the importance of recycling to save our planet. He has come to Merthyr Tydfil to dedicate his life to be the champion for waste and environmental awareness.
Various Council departments and partner organisations were also invited to display information on their services relating to environmental topics. Pupils were encouraged to visit each stand where they obtained useful information and were given “goodie bags”.
Hopefully pupils and adults will take home the important messages learnt at the launch and implement them in their every day lifestyles.
Enviroman will now be seen in schools and in community shows and his striking appearance will be commonplace on the Council’s waste collection vehicles, on environmental literature and on the developing web site.
