Merthyr Tydfil LEA WJEC A Level and AS Level results 2008 PR528 14th August 2008 Pupils in Merthyr Tydfil who take ‘A’ Level examinations continue to do well with a 4% increase in students achieving A-C. The overall pass rate was 97% which is close to the 2007 results and just below the Welsh average of 98%. Over the last ten years the percentage achieving grades A-C has risen by more than 16%. Over 70% of pupils achieved the higher levels of A-C and 1 in 5 passes were at the top grade. More pupils than ever before were entered for A Level examinations.
The overall pass rate for AS Level at A-E showed an improvement on 2007 and at 91% was above the Wales average of 89%. Even more encouragingly the percentage of pupils attaining AS Levels at A-C increased by 7% with 23% attaining the highest grade A, an increase of 6% compared with 2007 and above the Wales average of 18%.
Chris Abbott, Director of Integrated Children’s Services, commented: “The young people of Merthyr Tydfil can be rightly proud of their achievements in ‘A’ and AS Level examinations. It is a testament to their own hard work and to the dedication and expertise of their teachers.”
