Leisure facilities fit for the 21st century

Residents in the County Borough have now been given leisure facilities fit for a king in the form of the Grove Field development project in Aberfan.

The Grove Field site, which is set to be partially operational from the 17th October 2005, and fully operational by next Summer, will offer the local community the incentive to lead an active and healthy lifestyle with its first class facilities.

The site, which features extensive refurbishment of the changing room block, the construction of a half size artificial turf pitch, a bespoke scrimmaging area and cricket wicket to name just a few of its facilities, is also designed to identify exceptional youth talent within the area.

Councillor Bill Smith said " Its great to see this project coming together. This new sports facility will make a world of difference to the residents of Merthyr Tydfil. We are very grateful to all the partners who have been involved and have made this possible. Lets hope that Grove field will allow the youth the chance to become tomorrows sporting stars."

The project has been developed in partnership with the local community, the Ynysowen Partnership Board and the Council. It has been jointly funded by the Sports Council for Wales, Community First, CFAP, Enfys Open Spaces and the Council.
