Tenants Conference

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s (MTCBC) Housing Division is set to hold its fourth Annual Tenants’ Conference on Thursday 22nd September 2005 which provides landlord and tenants with the opportunity to discuss their views openly.  The conference is being held in Aberfan & Merthyr Vale Community Centre, starting at 10:30am until 2:30pm.

This event provides the opportunity for Tenant and Resident Associations within the County Borough to network, share ideas and promote the work they have undertaken in their communities.

This event provides the opportunity for tenants to speak directly to Housing Division staff, and gather information and advice from partner agencies that will be in attendance on the day.  This event has proved to be very successful over the past three years with over 100 participants attending and making their contributions towards improvements and developments.

Tenants will be able to receive feedback on performance as well as new initiatives under consideration as well as expressing their views and priorities through participating in the exercises and workshops.  The feedback will provide the Council with valuable information on the service areas that resources need to be concentrated on to ensure that the services provided meets the needs of the customers.

There will be various activities taking place throughout the day including a Key Note Speaker, Interactive Workshops, ‘Live’ Reality Show, and information about Service Improvements, Rewards Scheme, DIY Demonstration, Welfare Benefits Advice and a  Prize Draw.  Free transport is available and light refreshments.

Head of the Housing Division at MTCBC, Mr. Robert Davies, said “This conference ensures that all tenants have the opportunity to comment on the services they receive from their landlord this then enables the Housing Division to prioritise work programmes to meet our customers’ needs.  In addition to gathering information on what our customers want and how we can deliver those services, it also allows networking opportunities between Tenants, the Housing Division and Partner Agencies.  Gathering the views of existing stakeholders/partner agencies further strengthens working relationships which will lead to the development of a high performing service that meets our customers’ needs.

“This is a very successful event and it is hoped that the Conference will continue to grow in stature.  We aim to provide a variety of different ways in which tenants can engage with the Housing Division and have a direct input into service provision. There are many partner organisations involved in this event like Safer Merthyr Tydfil, Neighbourhood Learning, Welsh Tenants Federation (WTF), Communities First, Marlow Associates, and Revenues & Benefits Section from MTCBC  just to name a few and without all their hard work events like this would not be possible.”
