Community Care Awards

The Community Care Awards highlight excellence, promote innovation and recognise the contribution of individuals and teams to improving services across ten practice areas. Entries can come from all sectors in social care – in local authorities, voluntary and private agencies working in any social care setting. The closing date for entries is 29 September 2004. DFID Development Awareness Fund Mini-Grants programme 2005-6

The Department for International Development (DFID) provides support for the activities of local organisations working in development education and education for global citizenship. Projects must have a global perspective or an international development component. Projects can be of one, two or three year’s duration. Grants are available between £1,000 and £10,000 and applicants are expected to provide some funding towards the project. Cyfanfyd, the Development Education Association for Wales, manages the funding programme in Wales. To give potential applicants information and advice on how to apply to the fund, Cyfanfyd will be running free training days in Swansea (21 September) and Cardiff (24 September). The Friends Provident Foundation

The Foundation is reviewing its grant making activities, but the trustees have identified financial exclusion as their overarching interest. The Foundation is expected to start considering grant applications from October 2004 onwards. Details from www.friendsprovident.com/csr

 

Health Challenge Wales voluntary sector grant scheme 2005-07

The Health Challenge Wales Voluntary Sector Grant Scheme (HCW VSGS) exists to strengthen national health promotion work in Wales. The aim of the scheme is to develop the capacity and capability of national voluntary organisations in Wales to work in partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government in promoting health and well being through support for core and project activities. Applications will be welcomed that respond to Health Challenge Wales. International Fellows Programme

The International Fellows Programme offers individuals an opportunity to participate in a three-month seminar on “the UK and international voluntary sectors” in New York. The programme provides leadership training through applied research and professional mentorships with the aim of building up third sector capacity in the US and in the fellows’ home countries. The topics for 2005 are Community Foundations and Diaspora Philanthropy. The programme is open to practitioners and researchers under the age of 36 who are citizens of countries other than the US. Applicants must hold a degree and preference is given to candidates with strong ties to a third sector institution and demonstrated research skills. The application deadline for the 2005 programme is 30 September 2004. Details from www.philanthropy.org.

 

Justice Awards

The Justice Awards have been introduced to recognise outstanding achievements among staff and volunteers in the Criminal Justice System. Voluntary sector organisations that work with victims, witnesses, defendants or offenders are also eligible to apply. Awards are available to individuals and teams. Trusthouse Charitable Foundation

The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation has refocused its £1m a year grant giving programme to ensure greater social impact in areas of deprivation. The Trust focuses on three areas of support for UK projects: healthcare and disability; community support; and education and the arts. It offers three-year revenue or capital grants of £10,000-£50,000, in addition to its more typical grants of up to £10,000.
