Taff Bargoed Strategy and Action Plan The villages of Trelewis, Bedlinog, Quakers Yard, Edwardsville and the town of Treharris will begin to witness a series of long term projects arisen from the Regeneration Strategy report prepared by Peter Williams Consultants.
In partnership with the Taff Bargoed Regeneration Partnership Board, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is working in conjunction with numerous bodies in both the public, private and voluntary sector to ensure these communities thrive with vitality.
The concept of the strategy is to support the restoration of the former colliery sites and regenerate both residential and commercial cores of the valley to benefit both residents and visitors to the area. The main elements that will be delivered over the coming years are creating conditions for sustainable economic development, reversing population decline, strengthening community ties and tackling the high incidence of ill-health.
To assist the delivery of the strategy, an application to the Heads of the Valleys for a full time Regeneration Manager has been approved. In addition, a funding package is being developed which will be submitted to Convergence Programme for consideration to deliver a range of key physical regeneration projects identified in the Regeneration Strategy.
